# Coffee Chats Chrome extension

> What the Coffee Chats Chrome extension does, how to install and connect it, how to sign out, and what it can and cannot read.

The Coffee Chats Chrome extension is a side panel in Chrome. It holds CoffeeGPT and your job apply queue, signed in as your Coffee Chats account, next to whatever page you have open. It is how Coffee Chats fills job applications for you: the web app and CoffeeGPT can line up applications, but only the extension, running in your own Chrome, opens and fills them.

After reading this page you will know how to install and connect the extension, what is in the side panel, how to sign out, and what the extension can read. [Apply to jobs](/extension/apply.md) covers filling applications.

## Install the extension

The extension needs Chrome 116 or newer, and it is free.

1. In Coffee Chats, open Settings, then Integrations, and find the "Chrome extension" card. Press "Get it" (it reads "Store page" if Chrome has connected before). Until the extension has connected, the Jobs page offers it too, with buttons such as "Add Coffee Chats to Chrome" and "Add to Chrome to fill". You can also search for Coffee Chats in the Chrome Web Store.
2. The link opens the extension's page on the Chrome Web Store. Add it to Chrome. Installing opens Coffee Chats with three quick steps.
3. Click the Coffee Chats icon in Chrome's toolbar to open the side panel. Pin the icon if Chrome hides it under the puzzle-piece menu.

## Connect your account

1. In the side panel, press "Sign in with Coffee Chats".
2. If you are not signed in to Coffee Chats in Chrome, sign in the usual way, with Google or an email link.
3. A page headed "Connect to Coffee Chats" shows the account the extension will use. Press "Use a different account" to switch, or "Connect" to finish.

The side panel then opens on your Jobs queue. The "Chrome extension" card in Settings shows one of four states: "Connected", "Installed, not running", "Not installed" or "Not connected". When it is connected, the card's "Open Applying" button takes you to Applications on the Jobs page.

## What is in the side panel

* CoffeeGPT, the same assistant as in the app, with your chat history and a "New chat" button. It can prepare you for a chat, draft an intro, track jobs and start applications.
* "Add this tab" in the composer's plus menu, which sends the open page's title and address with your next message, and nothing else from the page.
* The Jobs queue: your saved jobs that have an apply link, each with a review card, and the buttons that start filling them. [Apply to jobs](/extension/apply.md) explains them.

## Sign out or switch accounts

Open the account menu at the top of the side panel.

* "Sign out" disconnects the extension from your account and forgets its credentials. Your Coffee Chats session in the browser stays signed in.
* "Switch account" signs out and starts the connect steps again.

The Settings card shows the extension's state, but you sign out from the side panel.

## Which sites the extension can read

The extension can read and fill pages on these job application sites with no extra step: ApplicantPro, Ashby, Avature, Breezy HR, ClearCompany, Comeet, Dover, Eightfold, Fountain, Freshteam, Gem, Greenhouse, Handshake, iCIMS, JazzHR, JobScore, Jobvite, Lever, Paylocity, Personio, Pinpoint, Polymer, Recruitee, Rippling, SmartRecruiters, Taleo, Teamtailor, Trakstar Hire, UKG (its candidate sites only), Wellfound, Workable, Workday (its candidate sites only) and Zoho Recruit. On an employer's own careers page that embeds one of these forms, click the Coffee Chats icon on that tab first; the extension can then fill the embedded form.

On any other site, including an employer's own careers site, the extension can read a tab only after you click the Coffee Chats icon in Chrome's toolbar on that tab. That access lasts until the tab goes to another page or closes. When an application needs that click, the queue says "Open this application's tab and click the Coffee Chats icon in Chrome's toolbar, then press Retry."

Some sites are left off the list on purpose. Employee HR and payroll portals, which many students are paid through, are never read without your click. LinkedIn and Indeed have their own apply flows and are not on the list.

## What the extension reads and sends

* It reads a page's contents only while it fills an application you approved, or when you ask it to. The side panel sees the open tab's title and address so it can offer "Fill this page".
* While it fills, it sends a text description of the form to Coffee Chats: field labels, options, visible text and the values already entered. The answers to legal and self-identification questions are withheld.
* It never reads password fields, file fields or hidden fields, and it never types a Social Security number or a date of birth.
* It never presses an application's Submit button. You submit every application yourself.

The [privacy policy](https://coffeechats.me/privacy-policy) covers job applications and the extension in full, including how long saved answers and run records are kept.
